Do all Standardbreds Pace? PDF Print E-mail
No not at all.  Pacing is an extra gait that is specifically bred for in Standardbreds, however, some Standardbred are 'trotters and not 'pacers'.  This means that when they race, their racing gait is a diagonal trot rather than the lateral pace.  Some Standardbreds will 'free pace' from a very early age, others will only pace when they are harnessed in hopples.
